Cairo International Airport authorities tightened security measures inside the airport and on nearby roads in anticipation of unrest following the acquittal of the security leaders accused of killing protesters during the revolution.
Security authorities set up several checkpoints around the airport to inspect cars, also deploying more soldiers at the parking areas and outside the terminals.
Former President Hosni Mubarak and former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly were each sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Official airport sources said that Cairo Airport authorities were keen to display the final session of the trial on screens.
The state news agency reported that passengers and employees discussed the verdict and the acquittal of the younger Mubaraks and Adly's deputies, while a “state of joy between passengers and employees at the airport prevailed.”
