Shahbanu Farah Diba Pahlavi remembers late Shah of Iran

On Wednesday, Shahbanu Farah Diba Pahlavi paid tribute to her late husband, Mohamed Reza Pahlavi, the former Shah of Iran, who died 30 years ago. More than 250 Iranians came to Cairo, where Pahlavi is buried, to attend the service.

“I thank the Egyptian people for burying my husband here,” the Shahbanu said. “The Shah is always on my mind.”

The Shahbanu also thanked the late President Sadat and his wife Jehan for their lasting friendship.

She said that her husband predicted Iran’s present state. “He could anticipate this. I feel sorry for the Iranian people,” she said, adding that she closely follows events in her homeland and that she is in contact with relatives there.

She also visited Sadat’s memorial accompanied by Mrs. Sadat, and kissed the tombstone. Sadat offered the Shah asylum in Egypt in 1979.
