Sources at Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital say the administration has been instructed not to release deposed President Hosni Mubarak, who is being held there for a period of 15 days pending investigation.
Mubarak is being held at the hospital, rather than in prison, due to concerns over his health, and has requested not to be moved to another hospital in Cairo due to his fragile mental state.
Meanwhile, a judicial source said the decision to move Mubarak from the hospital is the attorney general's responsibility and is contingent on security and health issues.
Medical sources said that Mubarak’s condition is stable, and that he is currently undergoing physiotherapy. They added that he felt chest pains on Wednesday, and that he is in a bad psychological state due to the approach of his second session of investigation by authorities.
They also said that certain prominent public figures visited Mubarak on Thursday of last week.
Hospital staff working in Mubarak’s suite complained that the administration had issued passes for them show upon entering or leaving the hospital. They said that some of them had been punished for leaking information about Mubarak.
A security source said that ambulances and patients coming to the hospital are immediately allowed entry.
Scores of demonstrators have protested outside the hospital, demanding that Mubarak leave Sharm el-Sheikh because the heavy security presence in the city is frightening for tourists.
