Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received a phone call on Saturday from his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.
According to Egypt’s presidential spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy, the call addressed ongoing efforts aimed at a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the exchange of detainees, and the implementation of humanitarian aid.
The two presidents reviewed the latest developments in this regard, and stressed the need for the cooperation of all concerned parties to ensure progress that ends the bloodshed and advances towards a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
During the call, President Sisi affirmed his nation’s categorical rejection of displacing Palestinians to Egypt in any way or form – a position that sees full international consensus.
The French President in turn affirmed his nation’s full support for Egypt’s position.
Both leaders stressed the danger of any military escalation in Rafah due to the catastrophic repercussions on approximately one and a half million Palestinians in the area.
The two presidents warned against the danger of conflict expanding across the region, and the necessity of rapidly advancing ceasefire and regional calm efforts.
