Sisi congratulates Macron after winning 2nd term in office

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron for winning the presidential elections, and hoped he will continue leading his country to further progress and prosperity.

“Egyptian-French relations were and still are close and growing historical relations, and we look forward to continuing consultations and mutual coordination on regional and international files of common interest,” Sisi tweeted on Sunday.

Macron won a second term in office, defeating his opponent, far-right leader Marine Le Pen, by 58.2 percent to 41.8 percent of the French vote – becoming the first French president to win two consecutive terms in 20 years.

Macron, who presents himself as “neither from the right nor from the left”, represents the model of the French intelligentsia, a former senior state employee who graduated from elite institutes and then worked as a business banker, then as a presidential advisor, before establishing his own political movement that led him steadily to Elysee.

Macron was born on December 21, 1977 in the city of Amiens (northern France) to parents specialized in medicine, into a wealthy family of three children.

He continued his education at the University of Political Science in Paris and then obtained a higher degree in political philosophy from the University of Nanterre (western suburb of Paris) before joining in 2002 the National School of Administration, from which batches of leaders of modern France graduated.

Macron’s political career began during the era of François Hollande (2007-2012), during which he assumed the position of Assistant Secretary-General of the Presidency and Adviser to Socialist President Hollande, before he became, in 2014 at the age of 36, the youngest Minister of Economy in the history of France since the era of Valéry Giscard-d’Estaing.

He remained in this position from 2014 to 2016.
