Sisi: Egypt keen to enhance strategic partnership with Japan

Egypt is keen to boost relations of cooperation and strategic partnership with Japan in various fields, especially industry, transportation, energy, education, tourism and culture, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said Friday 01/12/2023.

During his meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Dubai, President Sisi expressed Egypt’s deep official and popular respect for Japan’s rich history and culture.

The two leaders held expanded talks on the sidelines of their participation in COP28, Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Famy said in a statement following the meeting.

Japan welcomes the positive developments in joint relations at all levels, Kishida said.

He hailed the development level reached by Egypt, especially its major national projects that motivate Japanese companies to double their operations in Egypt to take advantage of the promising investment opportunities there.

Tokyo attaches special importance to its relations with Cairo at the levels of bilateral cooperation and political consultation, given the centrality of its role in the Middle East, the Japanese premier said.

During the meeting, the leaders discussed climate change and regional issues of mutual interest. The recent developments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank were of particular concern, and both leaders condemned the targeting of civilians in any way. They expressed their deep concern about the resumption of clashes in the region, which resulted in more civilian casualties.

Sisi informed Kishida of the latest developments in Egypt’s efforts to calm the situation and extend the humanitarian truce to a ceasefire.

The two sides agreed on the utmost necessity of providing relief aid to the people of the Gaza Strip in appropriate quantities and providing full protection for civilians.

The two leaders emphasized that Egypt and Japan oppose any forced displacement of Palestinians. They also stressed the importance of finding a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause based on the two-state framework and complying with international standards to promote peaceful coexistence among all people in the region.
