Accompanied by a number of ministers and senior state officials, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi arrived on Tuesday at the Suez Canal Authority Club in Ismailia to launch the Suez Canal Development Project and announce the conglomerate that would implement its general plan.
Planes flew over the canal to secure it, navy vessels sailed in the waterway, ferries were stopped and all bridges were closed as soon as Sisi arrived.
The government announced on Tuesday the building of a new canal parellel to the Suez Canal. The project is aimed at increasing Egypt's economic output.
