Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received a phone call from US President Joe Biden on Friday evening, wherein they discussed the Gaza war.
The official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency explained that the call came as part of intensive mediation efforts made by both countries to reach a truce in the Gaza Strip and begin the exchange of detainees.
The two leaders reviewed the latest developments in the negotiation round currently hosted by Cairo, the spokesperson added.
Both leaders touched on the importance of the concerned parties’ commitment to overcoming obstacles and showing flexibility to complete the agreement.
President Sisi eagerly stressed that reaching an immediate ceasefire agreement is of the utmost importance at this critical time, both to end the catastrophic humanitarian suffering in Gaza and to halt escalating tensions and spare the region further conflicts.
