Sisi in Sudan for a brief visit

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi arrived at the Sudanese capital on Friday for a brief visit where he meets counterpart Omar al-Bashir.

Sisi was on his way back from Guniea where he attended the African Union’s summit after Egypt restored its membership, ending nearly a year of suspension.

A diplomatic source told Anadolu Agency the four-hour visit will see discussions with Bashir over common issues, most notably the Renaissance Dam dispute with Ethiopia.

The agency quoted the Sudanese foreign ministry as saying that Sisi will check on the health of the Sudanese president and will discuss mutual issues that it did not name.

Sudan has been a vital party to the crisis with Ethiopia, being the other Nile River downstream state besides Egypt.

Egypt and Sudan had feared that the Ethiopian dam would affect their historical water share obtained under an agreement during British occupation. But Sudan's declared political stance seemed recently to tilt in favor of cooperation on the dam.
