Six April Movement members detained for calling for demos without permission

Prosecutors ordered the detention of four members of the 6 April Movement for 24 hours on Tuesday, pending security inquiries about their involvement in sabotaging public facilities during the demonstrations in Al-Haram district last Friday.

The detainees are charged with violating the protest law and the personal freedom of citizens, as well as deliberate destruction of public facilities.

According to investigations, the defendants were caught in possession of leaflets defaming the police and army.

They denied the charges and voiced their dissent regarding the investigation of political activists who oppose the new protest law.

Movement founder Ahmed Maher expressed his rejection of the law last month, calling it ‘unfair.’
