The main stock index saw a slight decline, which speculators attributed to the end of the year settlement.
The EGX30 index fell by 0.28 percent to 8,070.76 points, while the small and medium stocks EGX70 index rose by 0.34 percent to 585.43 points and the broader EGX100 index rose by 0.2 percent to 1,025.83 points.
Total trading stood at LE228 million in 9,442 transactions and the market capital lost LE323 million.
Traders expected more declines in the first week of Ramadan as it coincides with the financial settlement of investment funds and corporations at the end of the fiscal year.
“Now is a good time to revise portfolios,” said financial expert Mohamed al-Husseini, expecting the market to pick up on the second week of Ramadan.
