Source: 8 security personnel and civilian injured in east Cairo blast

Eight security personnel and a civilian were injured early Friday in a blast in Cairo, a source at the Interior ministry said.

The explosion was caused by a makeshift bomb targeting a security patrol in Cairo's Gesr al-Suez, state-run MENA cited the source as saying.

Explosives' experts are currently searching the area for potential bombs.

Attacks targeting security forces surged in Egypt, particularly in Sinai, since the army's ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July 2013, following mass protests against his rule.
