State Council, Administrative Prosecution argue over disciplinary courts

Over the past three weeks, the State Council has been arguing with the Administrative Prosecution Authority over an article on disciplinary courts that was proposed by a member of the Committee of 50 charged with amending the Constitution.

Each body believes disciplinary judiciary is within its own jurisdiction, and the problem would be put to a vote within the committee.

Chancellor Abdel Ghaffar Suleiman, vice president of the Administrative Prosecution Authority, said it will be better if the authority is assigned with this task because there are more prosecutors than judges. “Otherwise cases would take ages to resolve,” he said.

But Ahmed Mekky of the State Council’s Judges Club argues disciplinary judiciary is an inherent right of the council.
