Hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood students at the Al-Azhar University branch in Assiut closed the gates of the Faculty of Sciences, preventing others from taking exams, in protest against what they described as “murder of the group protesters by security at Cairo University.”
Students shouted slogans against the Interior Ministry and military as central security troops with armored vehicles blocked entrances and exits of the main gates and dormitories.
The fire department preempted the possibility of more fires by stationing engines in the area.
Meanwhile, dozens of Cairo University’s Dar Al Olum Faculty students protested in front of the faculty against cabinet decision allowing police access to the campus.
Students chanted slogans, flashed the Rabaa al-Adawiya salute and raised photos of deposed President Mohamed Morsy.
Skirmishes erupted between students supporting Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and their pro-Brotherhood counterparts. Security personnel intervened to separate them.
