Revolution movements, the National Salvation Front and secular parties in Suez announced the continuing of protests Wednesday in Arbaeen Square against the curfew and state of emergency. Youth groups announced that they would organize sports competitions to break the curfew.
Ali Amin, a leading Wafd Party member in Suez, said the protesters would be in the streets Wednesday night, as they were the previous night, to “challenge the curfew and stress that it is impossible to implement this curfew within Suez Governorate” or “impose” the state of emergency on them.
Mass demonstrations took place in Suez Tuesday, with thousands demonstrating until the early hours Wednesday.
Suez Governor Samir Aglan meanwhile decided to reduce the curfew to three hours per day, from 2 am to 5 am, after consultations with Major General Osama Askar, Third Army commander, and Major General Adel Refaat, head of the Suez Security Directorate, state-run newspaper Al-Ahram reported.
In Alexandria, political activists protested in front of the courts complex in Manshiya, in solidarity with activists arrested last week amid previous clashes. Demonstrators chanted for the release of their fellow activists, holding large banners with their pictures on them.
Security forces have arrested several protesters during the events, and prosecutors have accused them of disrupting traffic, damaging two police cars, causing a riot and terrorizing citizens.
