Syrian Information Minister Omran Zoabi said on Monday that the Muslim Brotherhood’s model of power in Egypt "has failed forever."
“This model has failed. Its regime in Egypt has died, but its death certificate hasn’t been issued yet,” Zoabi claimed during a press conference, adding that the Brotherhood had succeeded in smearing the image of the Egyptian state in just one year.
“It’s been clear that the Muslim Brotherhood’s ability as a political organization to present a model capable of running a country has failed,” he stated.
The Syrian minister stressed he was not referring to the Brotherhood's abilities as a political organization, but instead as a ruling group.
Zoabi added that the group has an “exceptional ability to ruin," claiming that “they [the Muslim Brotherhood] ruined in one year what has been accomplished since [former pan-Arabist President] Gamal Abdel Nasser’s revolution.”
He also criticized the model of the Justice and Development Party in Turkey, explaining that its style of rule does not work in as pluralistic a country as Turkey.
