Tahrir flyers offer reward for catching officer who blinded protesters

Protesters in Tahrir Square on Monday circulated flyers that offer a reward of LE5000 for the person who can find the security officer they accuse of shooting protesters in the eyes.

Flyers show the accused officer's photo and included a phone number to call if he's caught.

A YouTube video apparently showed the same security officer shooting demonstrators in Tahrir Square amid praises from his colleagues. The clip has had more than 70,000 views.

“An officer who shoots people in the eyes is continuing practices of the former regime,” said Hashem Bahary, a professor of psychiatry at Al-Azhar University, explaining that a man’s personality is the result of past and present experiences. “Those officers should have been rehabilitated.”

Bahary, who spent seven years giving psychological training to police officers, also said that officers who praise their colleagues for shooting demonstrators also needs rehabilitation.
