Ten arrested for posting video clip inciting church attacks

Egyptian authorities have detained ten people for posting an internet video clip that urged Muslims to attack churches in Giza, according to an official security source.

The same source said in a press statement on Tuesday that the suspects are being interrogated to determine whether they are linked to the attacks on two churches in Imbaba, north of Giza, which resulted in clashes leading to the deaths of 12 and the injury of 240.

The clashes in Imbaba followed rumors that a Christian woman alleged to have converted to Islam had been kidnapped and held in the Mar Mina Church in Imbaba.

Egypt’s ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces earlier accused elements of the former regime of President Hosni Mubarak, specifically from the National Democratic Party, of fueling the unrest.
