Pyramids FC player Sherif Ekramy lauded the performance of Egyptian national team and Al-Ahly goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir during the 2016 World Cup match against Argentina, stating that he delivered “the greatest individual performance in Egypt’s history.”
The Egyptian national team suffered a three-two defeat against Argentina in their Round of 16 match on Tuesday evening.
Ekramy wrote on his official X account: “The Egyptian national team managed to turn a match that Argentina was expected to win into one where they had to explain and defend how they won.”
He added: “This isn’t meant to belittle the defending champions, but rather to describe the magnitude of the performance our team delivered and the injustice they faced.”
“For me, the greatest individual performance in the history of the Egyptian national team was recorded today in the name of Mostafa Shobeir.”
He concluded his message by saying: “The Egyptian national team lost the match, but gained the respect of the world.”
