A heavy security presence surrounded the Cairo Governorate headquarters in the Abdeen area Tuesday after protesters attempted to storm the building.
Security forces had repelled attempts to break into the building, which faces the main gate of the Abdeen presidential palace, after protesters marched there Monday from Tahrir Square demanding the downfall of the regime.
Protesters and security forces had exchanged volleys of stones and tear gas, and clashes then broke out between protesters and local residents trying to stop them from storming the headquarters.
Sources have reported that the situation inside the offices is back to normal.
Informed source said it’s going normal in the governorate office in the aftermath of Monday incidents.
Cairo Governor Osama Kamal arrived in the morning and is performing his duties as usual, along with the office's other employees, the source added.
