The Egyptian Federation of Chambers of Tourism on Sunday announced its support for Ahmed Shafiq in the presidential election runoff slated for 16 and 17 June.
“We support him for his clear vision and support of the important tourism industry,” said federation chairman Elhamy al-Zayat.
Hossam al-Shaer, chairman of the Chamber of Travel Agents, said all employees would take a holiday during the election to cast their ballots. “And we will provide transportation to take them to the polling stations,” he said, adding that they account for some half a million votes.
“The West sees Shafiq as a liberal, which is reassuring,” Shaer said. “Also, the Freedom and Justice Party’s program for tourism is weak and shows that the party does not care about the industry.”
