The cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) Sunday released a statement containing details on the transportation fare increases across the governorates following price hikes of oil and gas from June 16.
The price increases varied between 50 piasters and LE 20. Cairo’s Al-Wadi al-Jadid (New Valley) line witnessed the highest increase up to 20 percent as the fare jumped from LE 100 to LE 120. Other internal lines in Cairo governorate witnessed increase up to 33 percent, climbing from LE 1.50 to LE 2.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli participated in preparing the list of transportation fares during meetings with all governors via Video Conference and the IDSC’s senior staff on Saturday. He asked the governors to impose penalties against the drivers who will increase the fares higher than the fares announced by the government.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior spread police forces from the Public Administration of Traffic to secure the microbus stations and act against any unrest.
