Update: Second Ettehadiya clashes victim dies; total injuries rise to 113

A second victim of Friday’s clashes at Ettehadiya Presidential Palace died Sunday after sustaining a gunshot wound in the head, said Dr. Ahmed Mostafa, deputy head of Heliopolis International Hospital, where the victim was treated.

Amr Saad Abdel Rahim, 20, is the second person to die in the clashes, following Mohamed Hussein Qorany, also known as Christie, who died Friday, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported.

Abdel Rahim had arrived in a coma to the hospital Friday at 9:30 pm, Mostafa said. He had been connected to a respirator in the intensive care unit until his heart and vital organs died.

Abdel Rahim’s body is still in the hospital morgue, waiting for orders from the prosecution.

Mostafa said the hospital received 26 protesters injured in Friday’s events, including Qorany, who arrived at the hospital dead, while Saad arrived in a coma.

Others injuries sustained by victims taken to the hospital, the doctor said, include gunshot and birdshot wounds, as well as cuts, bruises and fractures. The hospital released all injured victims, except for one, who is still being treated and is in stable condition.

The total number of people injured during clashes Friday reached 113 Sunday, Health Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Omar said Sunday, according to state news agency MENA. The clashes ensued between security forces and protesters decrying President Mohamed Morsy’s rule.

Omar added that 46 of the injured are still being treated in the hospitals, while the rest have been released. He also said that 11 people were injured in Tahrir Square.

Additionally, 13 people were also injured in front of the governorate headquarters in Kafr al-Sheikh.

A total of 57 people have died in nationwide clashes over various issues since 25 January, the two-year anniversary of the revolution, according to Reuters.
