A medical source in North Sinai has told Al-Masry Al-Youm that ambulance cars are unable to approach the Arish Police Station as the facility is under heavy fire from armed attackers.
A security source told state-run agency MENA that the station’s chief was checking the building’s rooftop on Tuesday when he received a gunshot to his leg by a sniper.
He was hospitalized at the city’s military hospital.
North Sinai security services were notified that clashes erupted between unknown people and police personnel at the station. Eyewitnesses said that gunmen targeted the troops securing the police station, however, security confronted them. Clashes erupted then.
Several attacks have occured over the past week in Sinai. The same police station was attacked on Sunday by unknown gunmen leaving at least 13 people dead and wounding dozens of others. Also on Sunday, a military statement said a roadside bomb detonated by militants killed six soldiers and wounded two others in an attack on an armored military vehicle in the town of Sheikh Zuweid. Later on the same day, a car bomb killed at least seven people and wounded 44 others, according to medical sources.
