Train traffic returned to normal Monday after Minya residents ended a sit-in they had been holding on the tracks. The protests over a butane gas cylinder shortage delayed 35 trains for a period of five hours.
The residents staged their sit-in at Fent Station, located between Fashn and Maghagha stations, Egyptian Railways Authority head Hany Hegab said Monday. The sit-in delayed the Cairo–High Dam trains’ two routes, he added.
The sit-in delayed the 35 trains for an average of two hours and 50 minutes per train, Hegab said.
Hegab said the authority calls on citizens not to stage sit-ins on the railways, as they cause huge financial losses.
