Cairo needs some 24,000 hotel rooms in addition to the existing 36,000 rooms in order to accommodate international events, according to Urban Planning Director Mustafa Madbouly.
“We have taken this into consideration in our long-term plan until 2050,” he said, pointing to a number of international hotels that have been planned along the Cairo corniche.
“We are also allocating thousands of acres in New Cairo and 6 October City for investors to build hotels,” he added.
Madbouly went on to point out that several old buildings in downtown Cairo had been slated to be converted into hotels.
