Voter registration closes for papal election

The voter registration for the election of the new patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church in Egypt ended Tuesday. The names will be announced in a week at the headquarters of the Saint Mark's Cathedral in Abbasseya.

Hani Kamil, a member of the Millet Council and member of the voters registration committee, Hani Kamil, said in a statement Tuesday that "the names of the voters will be announced by the committee this week then the door will be open for 15 days for any appeals."

Bishop Morkous of Shubra el-Kheimah heads the committee, which includes Bishop Timathous of Zagazig, Bishop Theodoseus of Giza, Dr. Hani Kamil and lawyer Mansi Thebet, a member of the general Millet Council.
