Statements by the Egyptian Minister of Civil Aviation regarding the announcement of a global tender regarding the management and operation of Egyptian airports have sparked controversy on social media, RT Arabic reported.
The Minister of Civil Aviation, Mohamed Abbas Helmy, previously said that Egypt will soon announce a global tender for the management and operation of Egyptian airports.
The offering will include all airports, including the Cairo International Airport, he explained.
The minister added that the ministry aims to increase the number of passengers traveling through Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh airports to 10 million in 2024.
The ministry is currently studying the financing mechanisms for the construction of a new passenger terminal at Cairo Airport, Helmy explained.
The former head of the Egyptian Federation for Air Transport, Yasser Abdel Wahab, assured that this is an excellent move for the Egyptian state and economy.
In exclusive statements to RT, Wahab explained that this will lead the Egyptian aviation sector and the Egyptian state into new horizons of advancement.
Marketing Egyptian airports will lead to the entry of new airlines into the Egyptian market, be they regular airlines or charter flights, he said, adding that the private sector is expected to exert great efforts to achieve gains for its investments.
The efforts of the private sector are equivalent to those of the government, he added, especially since there is a speed of decision-making in private companies, reflecting on the performance of the aviation sector.
He emphasized that the aviation industry is the fastest growing, with this step benefiting it and swiftly influencing the Egyptian economy as well.
Wahab noted that simply starting to market the aviation sector will lead towards great turnout, as well as granting security and reassurance for the Egyptian market.
