Wife of officer killed in Sinai wants leaders held accountable

The wife of the officer killed in the recent North Sinai attacks in Arish says authorities must be held accountable for the death of her husband, according to a private interview with Al-Masry Al-Youm on Thursday.

"He was so happy when he knew I was pregnant but he told me he would not see his son," Officer Ahmed Gamal's wife said.

Gamal received unfair treatment by his superior, she added. There were other officers who traveled with him, but he was the one sent to service for a period of seven months each time which rarely happens if not ever, she said.

When the incident took place, she said Gamal's case was the most critical case compared to others and because Gamal was not nepotised because he was not important to the minister or president, he came to Arish in five hours in an ambulance and died five minutes before he arrived.

"To honor him is to hold accountable all his superiors from senior to junior," she mentioned.

"He used to tell me he was afraid and they were not secured as it appeared on TV and that God's blessing was what kept them alive," Gamal's sister added.
