Hollywood film ‘Wonka’ has topped the foreign film box office in Egypt for the fourth day in a row, grossing approximately LE 356,000 on Saturday, bringing its total revenues in Egypt to LE 1.24 million.
Wonka is currently being shown in 37 foreign markets, including Spain, Germany, Mexico and Japan, in addition to the United Kingdom, where it achieved revenues of US$ 11.1 million. However it struggled in China, achieving a meager revenue of $3.2 million.
The film is a prequel about the whimsical life of Willy Wonka, from the 1964 novel “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by writer Roald Dahl. The character had previously been portrayed by Johnny Depp in a 2005 film adaptation.
It depicts Wonka’s first days as a chocolatier, and follows the adventures of young Willy Wonka before he built the world-famous chocolate factory.
Directed by Paul King, the film stars Timothée Chalamet, alongside British actor Hugh Grant as a member of an eccentric dwarf race called the Oompa Loompas.
It co-stars Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Tom Davis, and Olivia Colman.
