The Ministry of Social Solidarity has announced it had dissolved 14 civil society organizations, in line with the judicial ban on the Muslim Brotherhood.
In press statements on Tuesday, Minister Ghada Waly said the NGOs, whose assets were confiscated and operations halted, were located at the provinces of Minya, Beni Suef and Damietta.
She said the confiscated items and funds would be transferred to the ministry’s NGOs fund.
In a related context, Waly ordered the formation of new governing boards for the management of 21 organizations.
This is the fifth batch of organizations to be dissolved over Brotherhood links since February, bringing the total amount to 434.
Egypt is currently pushing for a law regulating the works of NGO’s and their finances, which activists fear seeks to further restrict their activities.
In June 2013, 43 foreign and Egyptian NGO employees were sentenced to one to five years in prison over charges of operating unlawfully and receiving illicit finances.
