4 Egyptian Museum relics recovered

Four pharaonic artifacts that went missing from the Egyptian Museum on 28 January have been recovered, Antiquities Minister Zahi Hawass said on Tuesday.

At a press conference, Hawass said the recovered relics include a rare 85cm-high gilded wooden statue for King Tutankhamun.

The Egyptian Antiquities Ministry has complained recently about thefts of artifacts around the country because of a lack of sufficient security for heritage sites.

In March, the ministry announced that approximately 800 ancient relics were stolen during the 25 January revolution. A ministry statement said it does not have precise figures for the number of stolen relics because of the large scale of thefts that have occurred during the past few months.
