Prosecutors have issued further arrest warrants against Muslim Brotherhood and Islamist leaders over recent violence in Cairo's Ramses Square, state-run media reported.
Officials issued arrest warrants Saturday for Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie, Essam al-Erian, Mohamed al-Beltagy, Safwat Hegazy and Jama'a al-Islamiya leader Assem Abdel Maged.
According to National Security Agency investigations, the five defendants incited riots at Ramses Square on Monday evening.
It added they incited them to storm al-Azbakeya Police Station, target policemen with birdshot, block 6 October Bridge and other nearby roads.
Rioters were allegedly paid between LE500 and LE1,000 for participating in the violence, prosecutors said.
Criminals were used to lead the 2,000 pro-Morsy marchers who blocked Ramses Square, al-Galaa Street and 6 October Bridge, the NSA report said.
The report claimed those involved were instructed to fire birdshot at police officers.
Prosecutors earlier ordered the detention of 70 supporters of toppled President Mohamed Morsy for 15 days pending investigation over the Ramses Square violence late Monday.
Defendants were charged with attempted murder, thuggery, using force against the police, possession of firearms and bladed weapons, blocking roads and sabotage.
Fifteen policemen and 70 people were injured during clashes.
