The Transportation Ministry is planning to present a project establishing a logistics center in 6th of October City during the economic summit, scheduled to begin on Friday, according to Gamal Hegazy, head of the General Authority for Ports and Dry Land.
Speaking to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Hegazy said a different project regarding the establishment of a similar logistics center in 10th of Ramadan City was also proposed, but only one of them will be presented during the conference. "The ministry plans to develop a number of logistic centers nationwide, in order to boost the national income. This will happen through using the materials imported to Port Said, Ain Sokhna and Alexandria seaports for making new products to be exported again, like what happens in Singapore, Dubai, Rotterdam and Hong Kong, prompting high income rates, thanks to the logistics,” he added.
The authority, according to Hegazy, has prepared a plan to establish nine logistics centers nationwide, to intergrate the national projects that are currently carried out. The first one of them will be the logistics port at 6th of October City, covering an area of 400 acres, at a cost of approximately US$50 billion. The center will provide the necessary infrastructure for the city’s industrial zone.
According to the scheme, the port will include 1,266 projects. Around 100,000 containers will be exported after the imported materials are used for production. It’s expected to provide around 2,500 jobs, and profits may reach $6 billion by 2026. The logistic center will contribute to facilitating and expediting the transfer of the goods, since it will be situated close to the 6th of October City’s international airport and railways. The initiative will save time, money and efforts of the investors, Hegazy said.
The center will also include customs services, import and export control, financial institutions, banks, restaurants and hotels, he added. There will also be additional packaging and storage services catering to the needs of the industry and trade in the new cities. This will also lead to easing congestion at seaports, as export goods will be already packaged at the port, before moving directly to the navigational route.
The 10th of Ramadan logistics center project will be presented after the end of the conference, Hegazy said. The project is planned to cover 250 acres, serving 3,000 factories in the city. It will include 1,626 projects, providing 3,000 jobs, with expected profits of up to $6.5 billion.
