UK recommends ‘only essential travel’ west of Delta

The United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised British visitors to Egypt to abstain from travel to regions west of the Nile Valley and the Delta.

“The FCO now advise against all but essential travel to the area west of the Nile Valley and Nile Delta regions, excluding the coastal areas between the Nile Delta and Marsa Matrouh,” it said in an announcement on the UK’s Cairo embassy website updating its travel advice on that region.

Meanwhile, the UK maintains its warning against travel to North Sinai, citing continuous terrorist attacks and surging criminal activity. It, however, welcomed travel to South Sinai resorts within the borders of the Sharm el-Sheikh and Red Sea resorts.

“Over 900,000 British nationals visit Egypt every year. Most visits are trouble-free,” according to the FCO.
