Trump insists again Egypt, Jordan taking in Palestinians from Gaza

In response to a question about Egypt and Jordan’s refusal to accept Palestinian refugees displaced from Gaza, US President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House, “They will do that,” seemingly dismissing their stated positions.

Trump continued, “We have given them a lot, and they have to do that.”

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi affirmed that the transfer or displacement of the Palestinian people is “an injustice we cannot participate in,” stressing that the constants of the historical Egyptian position on the Palestinian issue can never be compromised in any way on those constants and fundamental principles on which the Egyptian position is based.

Additionally, Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi affirmed his country’s commitment to its position rejecting any attempts to displace Palestinians.

Safadi emphasized during a press conference that the two-state solution is the way to achieve peace in the region, and that Amman will not accept any solution to the Palestinian issue at Jordan’s expense.

Trump added that he will likely decide by the end of the day whether to impose tariffs of 25 percent on imports of Mexican and Canadian oil, which would take effect on February 1.

Trump told reporters at the White House, “We may or may not make that decision. We’ll probably make that decision tonight.”

Trump has repeatedly warned Mexico and Canada, two of the United States’ largest trading partners, that he will impose tariffs if the two countries do not stop shipments of fentanyl and the flow of migrants across the US border.
