
CAIRO, Nov 13 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reaffirmed commitment and determination to strengthen and develop Egyptian-Turkish momentum in bilateral relations.
According to a joint statement issued Thursday in Ankara, the two top diplomats met on Wednesday on the occasion of convening the Egyptian-Turkish Joint Planning Group.
The Joint Planning Group mechanism, co-chaired by the two foreign ministers, was established under a joint declaration signed by the presidents of Egypt and Turkey in Cairo on February 14, 2024, with the aim of laying the groundwork for the upcoming session of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, set to be co-chaired by both presidents.
During the meeting, the Egyptian and the Turkish ministers discussed ways of strengthening bilateral relations and reviewed the status of agreements currently under negotiation between the relevant bodies in both countries.
Meanwhile, Abdelatty and Fidan followed up on the outcomes of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting held in Ankara in September 2024.
They reaffirmed keenness on continuing coordinating efforts between the respective authorities to further enhance economic, trade, and industrial cooperation.
The two discussed ways to provide attractive investment environment in both countries through additional incentives and solutions to overcome regulatory challenges, while accelerating relevant procedures.
They further agreed to take the necessary steps to continue advancing economic and security relations, at the bilateral and regional levels, through an integrated approach.
Meantime, Egyptian and Turkish sides also declared 2025 as the year marking the centennial anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Turkey, reaffirming the deep bonds of friendship between the two peoples.
The two top diplomats took up regional issues of mutual concern.
They both commended the leadership of US efforts to end the war in Gaza, emphasizing the importance of partnership with the US in achieving peace in the region.
The Egyptian an Turkish ministers also welcomed recent progress and reaffirmed their commitment to the outcomes of the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit that took place on October 13, 2020, within the framework of the comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza issued on September 29, 2025.
Abdelatty and Fidan reiterated their strong support for the Palestinian people and called for active participation by the international community in the upcoming International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip that will be hosted by Egypt in 2025, praising Egypt’s role in organizing this pivotal event.
They also reaffirmed their joint support for alleviating the suffering in Gaza and agreed to continue cooperation in delivering humanitarian assistance to those in need.
The two sides commended the reforms undertaken by the Palestinian Authority to facilitate its return to exercising its responsibilities in Gaza once appropriate conditions are in place. They stressed the need to achieve a two-state solution, with two sovereign democratic states living side by side in peace and security within 1967 borders, with Al-Quds (occupied East Jerusalem) as the capital of the State of Palestine.
They underlined the importance of combating terrorism in all its forms through consistent and principled cooperation and support for effective international efforts in this regard, reaffirming mutual support for the Syrian people in their pursuit of a comprehensive political process leading to a peaceful, secure and prosperous future for Syria, emphasizing the need to preserve Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
They called on the international community to intensify humanitarian, early recovery, and reconstruction assistance to improve living conditions for the Syrian people on the ground, underscoring importance of maintaining stability in the Horn of Africa, reaffirming their strong support for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and for the Somali government’s efforts to combat terrorism.
Abdelatty and Fidan voiced deep concern over the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has resulted in devastating humanitarian consequences across the country. They reaffirmed commitment to maintaining Sudan’s sovereignty, unity and public order.
The Turkish side welcomed efforts of the Quartet Group to achieve peace and stability in Sudan.
They reiterated determination to work jointly to maintain Libya’s stability, security and sovereignty, as well as its political unity and to support international efforts in this regard, especially the United Nations Road-map. (MENA)
