CAIRO, Nov 20 (MENA) – President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi urged boosting cooperation between Egypt and the Republic of Korea in different fields, especially in the areas of artificial intelligence, communications, and information technology.
President Sisi made the remarks during a joint press conference with President Lee Jae Myung of the Republic of Korea following their talks at the Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo.
President Sisi called on the Korean business sector to establish petrochemical production factories in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE).
The president also encouraged Korean companies specialized in auto manufacturing and shipbuilding to expand their presence in Egypt, through establishing additional factories and taking advantage of the investment incentives offered by the Egyptian government in the two industries
President Sisi said: “We also positively discussed the proposal to establish a Korean university specialized in science and technology in Egypt, in addition to exploring the possibility of opening Korean schools in Egypt, with the aim of transferring the educational experience and exchanging expertise.”
“Today, we witnessed the signing of two memoranda of understanding between our two countries in the fields of culture and education”, he added.
President Sisi welcomed the president of the Republic of Korea on his first visit to Egypt, noting that it comes within a shared desire to strengthen bilateral ties, and coincides with the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between both countries.
“Over these decades, cooperation and friendship between the two nations have steadily grown, based on mutual respect and support for peace, development and prosperity, reaching the level of a comprehensive cooperative partnership,” President Sisi said.
He added: “Egyptian–Korean relations form a bridge of civilizational and cultural dialogue, and present a model of economic cooperation built on complementarity and maximizing mutual benefit from the capacities of both nations and their peoples.”
“Building on this common ground, President Lee and I today discussed all aspects of bilateral ties, especially economic cooperation and the participation of Korean companies in major projects in Egypt. I take this opportunity to invite these companies to expand their work and increase their investments, and to welcome new Korean firms into the Egyptian market to benefit from its promising opportunities,” President Sisi added.
President Sisi noted that his talks with the President of the Republic of Korea touched on international and regional issues of mutual concern.
The two leaders agreed on the need to promote a global culture of peace and to support stability in the Middle East and the Korean Peninsula.
They also stressed the importance of intensifying global efforts to confront current challenges, most notably combating terrorism, tackling pandemics, addressing the negative impacts of climate change, and upholding international law and the purposes of the UN Charter.
President Sisi said “I reviewed Egypt’s efforts to preserve regional security and stability, which have recently culminated in reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, under the agreement signed at the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit on 13 October 2025 with broad international participation. I also informed President Lee of Egypt’s firm position on the importance of the two-state solution as the only path to a just, lasting and comprehensive peace. We look forward to more countries recognizing the State of Palestine to support this path, and we value South Korea’s active participation in the future reconstruction of Gaza.”
President Sisi said he looks forward to working with President Lee to achieve prosperity for the two countries’ peoples and to build on three decades of shared success.
He also conveyed his appreciation to the President of the Republic of Korea for his strong commitment and political will to deepen cooperation between the two nations.
President Sisi concluded his comments by saying: “Once again, I welcome President Lee, and I look forward to visiting the Republic of Korea again, nine years after my first visit. I wish you every success.” (MENA)
