The Cairo Criminal Court has acquitted actress Gihan al-Shamashirgy and four others on Thursday in a robbery case.
Shamashirgy arrived at the court early Thursday morning and remained seated in her car outside the Abdeen Courthouse.
As the session was about to begin, she entered the courtroom and sat in the back row without speaking to any media.
The Public Prosecution had referred Shamashirgy and four others to criminal trial after charging them with stealing belongings of the victim, “Mai H.,” alongside using force and coercion against a second victim, “Omaima M. ”
Investigations revealed that the defendants had planned the incident in advance. They traveled to the scene in a car before stealing the contents of the apartment.
While “Omaima M.” attempted to stop them from escaping with the stolen items, the driver ran her over, causing her injuries.
The defendants then fled with the stolen items.
The investigations also revealed that the defendants possessed a hammer without a legal permit, which was used in the details of the incident.
