FM reaffirms Egypt’s full solidarity with Lebanon to preserve its sovereignty

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Lebanon to preserve its sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and national institutions.

Abdelatty made the remarks on Monday, Aug 10, 2026, in a phone call with Lebanese Foreign Minister and Emigrants Youssef Rajji, during which they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties, as well as developments in Lebanon and the region.

Abdelatty said Egypt highly values its historical and fraternal ties with Lebanon, while stressing his country’s keenness to work with the Lebanese side to promote bilateral relations and advance cooperation across various fields.

The two ministers also tackled the latest round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, held in Rome earlier this month, and exchanged views on the outcome of the talks, with a view to creating conditions conducive to completing Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territory.

Abdelatty underlined the importance of maintaining the negotiating track and building on progress made during the latest round to achieve tangible results that respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He also called for the full and non-selective implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, urging Israel to halt all military attacks on Lebanon and withdraw completely from Lebanese territory in a move that would strengthen Lebanon’s security and stability and prevent renewed cycles of escalation in the region.

Abdelatty also reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the Lebanese government and its efforts to strengthen state sovereignty and extend its authority across the country, as well as for state institutions, particularly the Lebanese army, to enable it to fulfil its national responsibilities in maintaining security and stability.

The top Egyptian diplomat emphasized that Lebanese state institutions should remain the framework for managing the country’s affairs and safeguarding its stability.

For his part, Rajji expressed appreciation for Egypt’s steadfast support for Lebanon, praising Cairo’s continued backing of the Lebanese state and its institutions.

Rajji also affirmed Lebanon’s keenness to maintain coordination and consultations with Egypt on issues of common concern.
