Minister of Telecommunication Maged Othman said Egypt's electoral register will contain correct data on voters nationwide for the parliamentary elections.
Observers say former president Hosni Mubarak’s regime included inaccurate voter data, like names of the deceased and expatriates, in the electoral registers. It was widely believed that these ballots were cast in favor of the now-disbanded National Democratic Party to help the ruling regime win elections.
Othman told reporters in Washington on Sunday that this year’s elections will not see the use of phony data. He added that his ministry, along with the interior and administrative development ministries and the ruling military council, will coordinate efforts to obtain voters’ names using their identity cards.
