Arish residents to receive compensation for gas pipeline blasts

The company that operates the pipeline supplying Egyptian natural gas to Israel will compensate Egyptians affected by the explosions at the line, an Egyptian official said Tuesday.

Magdy Tawfiq, head of the Egyptian Natural Gas Company, said the pumping station in Arish, which was hit by a blast in July, will be restored in two weeks.

In an interview with Al-Masry Al-Youm, Tawfiq said residents in Ber Abd, the part of Arish where the station is located, have insisted on receiving compensation for the damage to their homes and properties before the station is restored.

He said compensations amounting to LE320,000 will be paid to the residents.

Tawfiq added that his company is coordinating with relevant authorities to secure the pipeline before supplies resume, particularly after the pipeline – which also supplies Jordan – was exposed to four blasts since February.
