Thousands of protesters gathered in Tahrir Square on Friday to protest the Constitutional Declaration, in what they called the Friday of Resistance.
Protesters included mostly representatives of Islamist groups, but also some revolutionary movements.
Protesters said their protest was in solidarity with President Mohamed Morsy. They said they disapproved of the Supreme Constitutional Court's decision to dissolve the Parliament, which Morsy had also contested.
"The people want to overthrow the constitutional (court)," they chanted, also calling out, "down, down with military rule."
Among those protesting against the declaration were supporters of the Islamist candidate Hazem Salah Abu Ismail, who was disqualified from presidential candidacy earlier this year under the declaration, after it was discovered that his mother had obtained Amerian citizenship. The declaration stipulates that a candidate's parents must both have Egyptian citizenship only.
Speakers on the main platform in the square called for a cleansing of the judicial powers in the country and the media, criticizing in particular TV host Khairy Ramadan of the CBC satellite channel and Tawfiq Okasha, owner and progam host of the Pharoh's channel, among other media figures.
