A military court in Ismailia has adjourned the trial of Al-Masry Al-Youm reporter Ahmed Abu Deraa in North Sinai until Wednesday.
Abu Deraa faces charges of reporting false information about the armed forces and being inside a prohibited military zone.
Negad al-Boraie, head of the group of lawyers defending Abu Deraa and legal adviser to Al-Masry Al-Youm, said he demanded the case be transferred from a military to civilian court.
He also claimed that Abu Deraa's lawyer was prevented from sitting in on questioning by military prosecutors, which goes against basic standards of fair trials for defendants in Egypt.
The Union of Journalists and Reporters in North Sinai staged a protest in front of the court on Sunday morning.
Abdel Qader Mubarak, who heads the union, said the body held a meeting on Saturday demanding the Journalists Syndicate levy for Abu Deraa's release.
