Alexandria designated best Arab city for environment management

The Saudi Meteorology and Environmental Protection Authority has chosen Egypt's Alexandria as the best Arab city for environmental management.

Saudi Prince Turki Bin Nasr Bin Abdel Aziz, head of the Saudi Meteorology and Environmental Protection Authority, will give the Award for Environmental Management to Alexandria's Governor Adel Labib at a ceremony to be held at Alexandria Library. The celebration will be attended by prominent Arab and international figures.

The Egyptian government in May launched an anti-smoking campaign in six governorates. Alexandria was the first to implement the ban when its governor prohibited smoking in public places and government establishments.

This award, which is offered every two years by the Arab Organization for Administrative Development of the League of Arab States, aims to establish broad environmental management in the Arab world, stimulate interest in sustainable development, publicize distinguished environmental management efforts and successful practices, and encourage environmental practices and activities in Arab countries.
