The April 6 Youth Movement on Saturday announced the launch of a political awareness campaign across Egypt's various electoral districts to expose former members of the now-disbanded National Democratic Party (NDP) and other corrupt candidates who are planning on running in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Members from the dismantled NDP have formed several new parties after the 25 January revolution, and some fear they could form a bloc within the new parliament and reproduce the NDP.
Ahmed Maher, founder and coordinator of April 6, said in a Saturday statement that a campaign called "A White Circle and a Black Circle" has been launched to help voters know what to look for in a parliamentary candidate.
The campaign will list the attributes of a good candidate, such as having strong integrity, a reform agenda, a role in fighting corruption and political experience.
The campaign will also generate a list of all suspected NDP candidates, some of whom ran as independent candidates in past elections.
The Freedom Party, Egypt National Party, Bedaya Party and Mowaten al-Masry Party have all been formed by former NDP members, Maher said.
On Saturday night, Egypt's ruling military council announced that parliamentary elections will begin on 21 November.
