Two leading members of the Muslim Brotherhood were arrested on Wednesday after the army overthrew former President Mohamed Morsy.
Rashad Bayoumi and Saad al-Katatni were taken to Tora prison in Cairo where Egypt's other ousted president, Hosni Mubarak, is currently being held prisoner, said state-run news agency MENA on Thursday.
The Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party head and former speaker of the People's Assembly, Saad al-Katatni, and deputy to the Supreme Guide of the Brotherhood, Rashad Bayoumi, forms part of a campaign launched by the security forces on the Islamist group, just hours after the overthrow of former President Mohamed Morsy.
Mubarak is being held in Tora prison, located on the outskirts of Cairo, with his two sons Alaa and Gamal.
Mubarak is on trial on charges of premeditated murder of hundreds of protesters during the 2011 revolution that ultimately toppled him. His two sons are on trial on separate corruption charges.
MENA said on Wednesday that the police is intending to arrest other members of the Muslim Brotherhood, accusing them of inciting violence and disturbing public peace and security.
