Cabinet to hold meeting Saturday

Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri’s Cabinet is scheduled to meet Saturday to discuss a number of draft laws and finalize the 2012/2013 budget so it can be implemented when the new fiscal year begins on 1 July.

Public spending is cut in the new budget, which relies on finances from new and non-traditional sources. The budget also aims to reduce the public deficit to LE134 billion.

Finance Minister Momtaz al-Saeed told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the budget has been referred to the military council for approval under the supplement to the Constitutional Declaration, which grants the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces legislative authority after the dissolution of Parliament.

The Cabinet will also discuss recent security and economic developments and follow up on progress in improving education, health services, water sanitation, transport, and agricultural initiatives.

The Cabinet is expected to approve requests from some governors to establish independent universities to serve the increasing number of students across the country.
