Car crash kills 14 in Minya

A car accident Tuesday left 14 people dead and three others injured near Samalout City in Minya Governorate.

Two trucks driving at high speeds caused the accident, which took place on a desert road that stretches along the east bank of the Nile.
 
Egypt has one of the world's highest traffic accident rates due to careless driving, poor roads and poor cars, which leads to the death and injury of thousands every year.
 
Road accidents are the second highest cause of death in Egypt after heart disease.
 
According to a governmental report issued in May, 18 people died in traffic accidents daily in 2009.
