Court backs Illicit Gains Authority’s decision freezing Abul Enein’s assets

Cairo Criminal Court ruled in favor Saturday of the Illicit Gains Authority's decision to freeze the funds and properties of a number of officials from former President Hosni Mubarak's regime.

The decision targets the funds of former National Democratic Party member and ceramics business man Mohamed Abul Enein and his wife and children, former editor-in-chief of Al-Akhbar Momtaz al-Qet and former editor-in-chief of Al-Gomhurriya Mohamed Ali Ibrahim. The ruling freezes their liquid assets, real estate, stocks, bonds and shares, as well as any money and accounts with Egyptian and foreign banks.

The court's ruling also prevents Abul Enein from accessing funds he obtained after 1995.

During its previous session, the court listened to Qet's defense, which said that all national newspapers are being examined by the Illicit Gains Authority.
